As part of our commitment to help make EV adoption more accessible and affordable, SCE is pleased to offer a $1,000 or $4,000 rebate to customers buying an eligible pre-owned EV. This program is available to residential SCE customers who qualify.

Whether you recently bought or leased a pre-owned EV or you’re still in the market and considering going electric, you can reserve your used EV rebate.

REQUIREMENTS AND ELIGIBILITY

SCE residential customers who purchase or lease a pre-owned battery-electric or plug-in hybrid EV with a battery capacity of at least 8 kWh may qualify for the rebate.

Only approved customers can receive a rebate. Customers can reserve rebate funds by getting pre-approved ahead of the sale/lease. See How to Apply for more information.

Rebate applications from customers must be submitted within 180 days of the sale or lease transaction date. All claims are subject to approval.

REBATE PLUS ELIGIBILITY

Applicants for the $4,000 Rebate Plus must meet all requirements and satisfy one of the two Eligibility Scenarios.

Applicant’s name must match the name on the proof of enrollment.

Documentation providing proof of Rebate Plus eligibility must be dated within 12 months of application submission.

Applicants under the age of 18 may be required to provide additional documentation.

Eligibility Scenario 1:
Enrollment in a Qualified Public Assistance Program

You may qualify for the $4,000 Rebate Plus if you were enrolled in at least one of the following programs on the date you purchased or leased the vehicle:

  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
  • CalFresh/SNAP (food stamps)
  • CalWorks (TANF)/Tribal TANF
  • Drive Clean in the San Joaquin Replace Program
  • Medi-Cal for Families (Healthy Families A&B)
  • Head Start Income Eligible (tribal only)
  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Medi-Cal (income-qualified Medi-Cal only)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • SCE Charge Ready Home (income-qualified approval)
  • Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

Eligibility Scenario 2:
Income Verification

You may qualify for the $4,000 Rebate Plus if your household meets annual gross income limits for your household size and the county in SCE’s service territory where you lived when you purchased or leased your vehicle.

  • Household Size refers to the Taxpayer and any Dependents claimed on one federal tax return. Individuals who live at the address but are not listed on the applicant’s tax return are not included in the “household size.”
  • Household Income includes all taxable and non-taxable income sources for household members over the age of 18, based on the most recent IRS tax return transcript filed within 2 years of vehicle purchase/lease. Income sources may include:
    • Wages, unemployment, workers’ comp, Social Security, SSI
    • Public assistance, veterans’ benefits, survivor benefits
    • Pensions, retirement, interest, dividends, rental income
    • Trusts, educational aid, alimony, child support
    • Outside assistance and other miscellaneous income
  • Applicants listed as a dependent for the specific tax year used by SCE for income verification will not qualify for Rebate Plus.
